Best natural supplements to lower blood sugar

Natural supplements to lower blood sugar levels sometimes do as well as drugs, just without the side effects.

Medicines that lower blood sugar work in very different ways depending on the preparation: Many people suffer from a call. Insulin resistance. The cells no longer react to insulin as usual and no longer let blood sugar into the cell. The result is an increase in the level of sugar in the blood. Some blood sugar-lowering medicines make the body’s cells more sensitive to insulin again.

The blood sugar level drops because the sugar can now migrate into the cells for fuel. Insulin resistance is said to be reduced o. improves the insulin sensitivity of cells. In other people, with advanced diabetes, the pancreas already releases too little insulin.

Therefore, there are blood sugar-lowering medications for these cases, which aim to stimulate the pancreas to do more and release more insulin. More insulin means less blood sugar. The blood sugar level drops.

The third category of blood sugar-lowering drugs delays the intake of sugar that comes from food. This means that sugar is prevented from migrating from the intestine to the blood. it moves into the blood with a delay to prevent sugar spikes and sharp fluctuations in blood sugar. Another mechanism of action is the reduction of new glucose formation in the liver. This effect also prevents high blood sugar levels in some patients.

We found very similar effects in food supplements that can regulate blood sugar levels. Here too are agents that increase the insulin sensitivity of cells, agents that activate the pancreas, and agents that slow down the absorption of sugar from the intestine.

Top 10 natural supplements to lower blood sugar

Always keep in mind that the holistic food supplements below do not always lower blood sugar levels, as is the case with blood sugar-lowering medications. They regulate the level of sugar in the blood. If a person with a healthy blood sugar level takes the food supplements below, their blood sugar level does not change.

A rise in blood sugar is a serious omen. Because it can lead to type 2 diabetes. And even if many people are affected by diabetes, the disease alone cannot be successfully treated with conventional medical measures.

Often there are extremely unpleasant complications, such as. worsening vision, renal failure, or diabetic polyneuropathy. The latter is a nervous disease that manifests itself in disorders of the sensation of the extremities. In this case, the legs in particular often tingle and ache so much that sleep and general well-being can be seriously affected.

The brain is also extremely negatively affected by a rise in blood sugar. Too much sugar in the blood causes circulatory disorders and the brain shrinks. In technical terms, one speaks of brain atrophy with dementia (before or after).

Proteins and lower blood sugar

They are essential molecules in most biological processes: cell growth, formation of hormones, and antibodies. They must represent 15-20% of the calories ingested in our diet. In this group, we find meat, fish, dairy, eggs, and with less protein, other foods such as legumes. If one of our objectives is to reduce weight, it is preferable to chicken meat, turkey, and rabbit with a lower percentage of fat. We must remember that the consumption of processed meats should be reduced to a minimum.

Some doubts of the patients are the following:

Foods for diabetics: The carbohydrates used tend to have a lower glycemic index and load (in some studies, but not all, this is associated with a decrease in glycosylated hemoglobin) but they are carbohydrates after all because increase blood glucose. In addition, many products still contain sugar and use undesirable fats, so their consumption is not necessary. A healthy, varied diet without processed foods is always recommended.

Sweeteners: These are natural or synthetic substances that are added to foods to sweeten them. Some natural sweeteners (fructose, sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol) and honey have an energy value similar to that of sugar (sucrose) and raise blood sugar levels. Synthetic sweeteners (saccharin, aspartame, cyclamate…) have no energy value and do not increase blood sugar. They should always be consumed in moderation (for example the sorbitol present in chewing gum causes diarrhea if consumed in large quantities).

Vitamin, mineral, antioxidant, and omega-3 supplements:

Taking these compounds is not recommended unless there is a proven deficiency.

Gluten-free diet: Between 1 and 10% of patients with DM1 have celiac disease, a digestive disease in which the consumption of gluten (a protein present in cereals such as wheat or rye) is associated with inflammation of the intestine. Only in those cases is a gluten-free diet necessary, but not in all patients with diabetes.

The artichoke is an extremely blood sugar-friendly vegetable, both the flower bud and the leaves. Artichoke buds also contain a lot of inulin, which can reduce a chronically elevated insulin level, often present in the early stages of diabetes.

Since you do not like to eat artichoke vegetables every day, dietary supplements made with artichoke extract greatly simplify the regular intake of artichokes. Several studies also showed how high the dose of artichoke extract should be to lower blood sugar.

In a 2006 study, participants suffering from type 2 diabetes mixed 6 grams of artichoke powder (without extract) into a cookie dough. They ate four of these cookies every day for 90 days. The control group ate the cookies without the artichoke powder. In the artichoke group, a noticeable improvement could be observed in fasting blood sugar, but also in blood sugar after meals.

A recent study conducted in 2014 showed that artichoke extract (600 mg daily for eight weeks) lowered fasting blood sugar by 9.6 percent. The HbA1 value (long-term blood sugar) also decreased under the influence of artichokes, ie by at least 2.3 percent.

Since artichoke extract simultaneously stimulates bile flow, influences fat digestion very favorably, and promotes liver health, you can choose artichoke extract, especially if you also have complaints in this area.
